Introducing Linda Waring

Linda Waring has always marched to the beat of her own drum.

She began playing the drums in the fifth grade and was immediately hooked. A band director advised Linda’s mother that she shouldn’t buy her daughter a drum kit, as Linda’s interest was sure to wane.

“I spent the rest of my life trying to prove him wrong,” Linda said.

And prove him wrong, Linda did. After high school in La Porte, Texas – where she was part of an all-female drum line – Linda embarked on a professional music career that spanned nearly five decades. She cut records and toured with her own bands and major recording artists like Delbert McClinton and Kinky Friedman. But the choices she made took their toll.
“No family, no kids,” said Linda about life as a professional musician. “There’s kind of a trade-off.”

A resident of the Meadowbrook neighborhood, Linda found 4Saints & Friends in February 2023. She’s been volunteering at the pantry ever since. Linda says that one of her 2023 New Year’s resolutions was to be more active, and volunteering has been great for that. But, more importantly, Linda says that 4Saints & Friends has helped her create a family.
