Seeing the country, particularly Colorado, was one of the things Johnny Jordan loved about his 18 years as a long-haul truck driver. But it was when Johnny retired in 1987 that life got really interesting.
Johnny’s daughter and then-wife – he’s been divorced for 32 years – convinced Johnny to try his hand at acting after he left the road. He ended up working on the set of “Walker, Texas Ranger,” a television show shot in and around the D/FW Metroplex, for five years. Johnny was an uncredited extra, handled some driving on the set, and served as a stand-in for series co-star Clarence Gilyard Jr.
The “Walker, Texas Ranger” gig led to other post-retirement opportunities for Johnny. He was part of the production team for “Point Blank, a 1998 direct-to-video movie shot in Fort Worth that stars Mickey Rourke and Danny Trejo, and has worked with Wesley Snipes, too.
Johnny now picks up scrap iron and relies on 4Saints & Friends and other social service agencies to get by. He likes coming to the pantry because of the variety of food items offered and the friendliness of 4Saints volunteers, all of whom seem to know him by name. Johnny’s only complaint is having to cook all of his own meals with the groceries he brings home.
But he has plans where that’s concerned. With a flash of his movie star smile, Johnny said, “One of these days, I’m going to find me a wife, and then I won’t have to worry about it.”
